Chloé is founded by Gaby Aghion, an Egyptian-born Parisienne who decides to create soft, feminine, and bohemian garments that reject the stiff formality of 50’s fashion. The line is called “luxury prêt-à-porter” beautifully made clothes available off the rack, unique for the time. The name “Chloe” is chosen to reflect the new mood of Paris : youthful and modern in design and slightly audacious in spirit.

1956 Aghion and her business parter, Jacques Lenoir, debut their first collection for chloe at he cafe de Flore in Paris. They call it the antidote to the stuffy couture of the fifties.
